Public-Private Partnership:

The National Film and Video Foundation(NFVF) and The Cortex Hub (Cortex Hub) have partnered to create the Film Hub, an incubator/accelerator aimed at promoting the development of the South African film and media industry through the use of technology. The Film Hub will provide training to entrepreneurs and filmmakers in the Eastern Cape that will allow them to navigate the international film industry by leveraging technology to help them create and edit movies that can compete globally.

Organizational Background:

Technology is disrupting every aspect of our lives, and film making has not been immune to this phenomenon. Technology enables movie makers to create high-quality films with 3D animation at a fraction of the cost. One company who is powering the most advanced and visually rich films ever made is NVIDIA. NVIDIA has developed cloud solutions for the film industry that make use of deep learning, simulation, rendering and virtual production. Advancements in these technologies have allowed filmmakers to leverage NVIDIA GPU’s to make box office hits such as The Lion King (Live action), Life Of PI, Avengers: Infinity War and many more.

The Film Hub aims to enhance African storytelling through the use of technology.

The Film Hub provides entrepreneurs in the film and media industry with training, access to a state-of-the-art space and resources to accelerate their passion. We aim to provide the Eastern Cape film industry with the synergy of film and technology to benefit the entire province.
